Successful ministry has many aspects, some visible, some behind the scenes. Financial Services are one of those ministries that is less public. However, if the financial resources are not handled properly, the effects hinder most every other ministry.
With this in mind, we would like to introduce you to the people “behind the scenes” but who play such a key role.
Rev Fred D Otto is the Finance Coordinator for Africa Region. Fred works with the Regional Director concerning financial matters including budgeting, planning and reporting. Fred server as a systems analyst before coming to Africa, and has been involved with the development and implementation of the new regional account system. He came to the regional office with over 20 years of experience in various capacities throughout the region—most recently as Ministries Coordinator for Liberia and Ghana. These experiences are invaluable when working with mission coordinators and other leaders on the fields and with donors.
Mrs Tougida Hayes is the Accounts Manager. Tougida oversees the day-to-day work in Finance Services. She has served the region in the finance office for over 20 years. Tougida’s great love for the Lord is expressed in her dedication through both good and difficult times. Her main responsibility is to insure that the procedures in the office are relevant and are followed.
Ms Thelma Snyman is the Allocations Clerk. She recently moved from her position as Statistical Secretary. Her knowledge of the region and abilities with figures make her an excellent Allocations Clerk. Thelma’s main responsibility is to work with each field office to insure that the funds move from the General Treasurer’s office through to the fields as quickly as possible, while maintaining an excellent audit trail. Thelma has also worked in the Regional Offices for over 15 years.
Another important feature of our finance systems is the ability to track each individual donation throughout the system. Our vision is to continue to develop this ability and thus earn and main the confidence of each donor—small or large.
The sound financial position of the Church of the Nazarene on the Africa Region has been established and will be maintained through distributed authority and transparent reporting. Those in authority receive monthly reports and are invited to ask questions as they oversee the funds under their responsibility.
