General Superintendent Dr David Graves & Mrs Sharon Graves Visit Mozambique
Dr David Restrick, SNM Academic Dean
From 13 – 17 January 2010, Dr and Mrs David Graves made their first visit to Mozambique as General Superintendent in jurisdiction for Africa. During their visit Dr Graves presided over the district assemblies of the Chibuto, Matola, and Maputo Districts. In each of the assemblies there was a spirit of optimism and praise as reports of growth and progress were given. In both Matola and Maputo Districts, the district superintendents were re-elected for additional four-year terms with nearly unanimous votes.

On Sunday, 17 January, nine pastors were ordained as elders. The new elders are: João Domingos from Sofala Central District, Orlando Jofesse from Sofala Marromeu District, Hélder Zimba from the Inhambane District, Raphael Maposse and Moisés Matsinha from the Manjacaze District, Verónica Chambule, Samuel Benhane and Louino Chiconela from the Maputo District, and Belmiro Langa from the Matola District.

Visiting Mozambique in the middle of summer is sometimes a challenge, as the temperature averages 33 °C ( 92 °F). In spite of the summer heat, Dr and Mrs Graves enjoyed the wonderful voices lifted in praise and the great resilience of the Mozambique church members. Dr Graves commented that he had heard of the Church in Mozambique most of his life, and now he was pleased to have the opportunity to meet so many Nazarenes on the Africa Lusophone Field face to face.
